Appearance on CNN Headline News with Jane Velez-Mitchell

Because I’m convinced nobody actually saw this, here is the clip from my recent appearance on CNN Headline News with Jane Velez-Mitchell  a few weeks back.

It was a surreal experience, to say the least.  In the “Green Room” at CNN HQ in NYC (which I shared with legal pundit Jeffrey Toobin, who proceeded to aggressively ignore me), I was told that I wouldn’t actually appear in the same studio as Jane, but instead chime in from a small studio next door to her, where I sat alone and stared into a camera, my only lifeline the wire piece that kept slipping out of my ear.

I had no idea how it would all go down, and the whole thing was over before it even began.  When we were done (a mere minute after it began), all I could think was:

“What the heck just happened?”

I had no idea what I even said, other than the fact that I kind of blathered my way through that one.  But upon reviewing, my favorite part of the interview has to be the silent clips lifted from our YouTube cooking videos of Julie massaging vegetables.

Don’t get me wrong — it was more than an honor to be on the show, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to get the word out about the book.  And I’m all about spreading the word about plant-based nutrition, so to be sure it was a gift.  Plus, I did get to meet Jane afterwards, and she was delightful – like myself she is an advocate of plant-based nutrition, as well as outspoken on issues relating to addiction recovery.

The only downside?  I just missed meeting Anderson Cooper, who walked by down the hall just seconds before I emerged from the studio.  Oh well, hopefully there will be a next time!

In any event, I had a blast in NYC promoting Finding Ultra.  In addition to CNN, I did a fun run & Q&A at Jack Rabbit Sports on the Upper West Side, monitored by my friend & pro triathlete John Hirsch, spoke at The Seed Experience, was interviewed by The Doctors on Sirius FM at NYU Medical Center, and more.  It had been years since I had visited the city and it was just great to be back – I forgot how much I love it there.

Here’s some photos from the week.  Enjoy.

Having just “discovered” you, I must say I really enjoy your honesty and “down to earth” approach! Looking forward to following and learning more! And of course to reading your book, which I just ordered.

Enjoying your book quite a bit (you’ve just completed part 1 of the Epic5). Refreshingly honest and unsanctimonious in the gritty part. I remain omnivorous, but thanks to my vegan — or rather, plant-powered — wife, I’ve been enjoying the nutritional and taste benefits of new foods, as well as getting into great shape. I never would have believed as a 30-year-old that I would feel this good in my 50s. Thanks for the inspiration.

I’m 3/4 through your audio book I purchased through itunes and listen to it during long runs and while I drive… the only disadvantage is that I can’t really take notes or research some of the references such as your clensing program, books you reference, athletes, etc… Love to have that in txt if possible.

A weird setup, for sure, but the interview turned out great! Also very much enjoyed your Veganpalooza interview with Will Tuttle, and am looking forward to reading your book. Congratulations!
